Bespoke architectural
steel staircases,
forged for a lifetime.
From sweeping helical forms to gravity-defying floating flights, Rye Stairs designs, engineers and fabricates statement staircases for architects, developers and private clients across the UK.
Four disciplines. One uncompromising standard.
Every staircase begins as a conversation and ends as an heirloom. Explore the core specialisms that define our practice.
Helical
Sweeping, hand-rolled stringers formed from solid steel plate — engineered to a single continuous curve.
ExploreCurved
Gentle arcs and elliptical flights that guide the eye — the architectural equivalent of a held breath.
ExploreSpiral
Compact, sculptural vertical ascents — a single piece of functional architecture that anchors a room.
ExploreFloating
Cantilevered treads anchored invisibly into structure — light, minimal, engineered to millimetric tolerance.
ExploreIn-house CAD & 3D modelling
Every commission is modelled in full 3D before a single cut is made. We issue native Revit and Rhino files to your architect, run FEA stress analysis on every stringer, and walk you through a photoreal render so there are no surprises on site.
From first conversation to final handover.
Consultation
Site visit or remote briefing. We assess structural conditions, discuss form language, material preference and budget envelope.
Design & Engineering
Full 3D model, FEA analysis, photorealistic renders. Revisions until every detail is resolved and signed off.
Fabrication
Hand-rolled, TIG-welded, hand-finished in our Rye atelier. Progress photos at every milestone. 10–16 week lead.
Installation
Our own team delivers and fits. Final polish on site, commissioning sign-off, and 25-year written guarantee.
Steel in every character.
We work exclusively in steel — no other material offers this combination of tensile strength, formability and lifetime durability.

The Hastings Helical
A 3.2 metre open-well helical staircase in blackened mild steel with solid brass balustrade, commissioned for a seafront residence in East Sussex. 847 individual welds. Zero visible fixings.
